Hello, my name is Thijs Menger, I live in Amsterdam  with my family, I am a partner to my girlfriend Caroline and a father to our Son Lars.

I was raised around the water with a sailboat always around the corner, when I was 15 I’ve started as a sailing instructor on the inner lakes in the south part of the Netherlands, Coming from a family that has strong ties to merchant marine, I ended up at nautical college where I graduated as maritime officer all ships. ( a dual license education teaching you both nautical and technical aspects of sailing a ship) During my career at sea I’ve made the decision to sail as a deck officer so I’ve ended up with an commercial Master unlimited license. This allows me to sail any merchant marine ship with unlimited gross tonnage as a Master.

For the last 14 years I’ve worked for one of the major cruise companies cruising around the major capes Navigate the polar waters of Antarctica and the North pole and all the ports in between those waters

Next to my professional career at sea I’ve always been sailing around, most of the trips discovering Dutch British Belgium and French coast lines.

The combination of sailing on my private boat and working as a professional navigator will allow me to teach you with a brought package of experience in my back pocket. (and some great stories down the road…)

I have an open personality with a great eagerness to learn and teach. A passion for sailing, music, nature, whiskey and cooking.

Join me on one of the courses and I’ll do my upmost to create a comfortable open atmosphere where we can all develop at our own pace and enjoy life together.

Solo on the North sea, Over the years I've built up a great confidence in the Musto HPX and MPX line, I have jackets over 15 years old that are  still as watertight like the first day they were bought.

The hardest thing of a life at sea. Saying farewell to Lars and Caroline for 3 months. A difficult moment..

What would life be without champagne?

270 degree view water oriented. Even when we choose our place to live water is an important factor :) Juliet can be docked alongside the building to facilitate easy loading of provisions.

Juliet has a 360 degree ocean view! try to beat that silly apartment... ;)
